Dům U pikové desítky
You know what caught me off guard about Dům U pikové desítky?
You know what caught me off guard about Dům U pikové desítky? The name literally means “House at the Ten of Spades” – and honestly, I was expecting some kitschy casino-themed place, but it’s actually this charming four-star spot that feels more like staying in a well-appointed Prague townhouse than a typical hotel. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone put real thought into the details rather than just ordering everything from a hotel supply catalog. The lobby has these gorgeous period features – I’m talking original moldings and hardwood that creaks just enough to remind you you’re in a building with actual history, not some sterile modern box.
What really sells this place (and why I think it’s earned that solid 8.3 rating) is how it manages to feel both polished and lived-in at the same time. The rooms are properly four-star – good linens, decent bathroom pressure, reliable wifi – but there’s also this attention to character that’s getting harder to find in Prague these days. I mean, so many places in the city center have gone completely corporate, but here you’ll find things like vintage Czech ceramics on the shelves and local artwork that actually looks like someone chose it, not like it came from a bulk art warehouse. The staff seems to genuinely know the neighborhood too, which is refreshing. When I asked about dinner spots, the desk clerk didn’t just hand me a tourist map – she walked me outside and pointed to a little wine bar two streets over that ended up being exactly what I was looking for.
The location works really well if you want to be in Prague but not right in the absolute thick of tourist central – you’re close enough to walk to all the main sights (Old Town Square is maybe fifteen minutes on foot), but the immediate area has more of that authentic residential vibe where you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning rather than just tour groups. Parking can be a bit tricky like everywhere in Prague, but they’ll help you figure it out, and honestly the tram connections are solid enough that you probably won’t need a car anyway. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that gets the balance right between comfort and character, and in a city where that balance is getting harder to strike, that’s worth something.
Brno’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Czech tradition and modern comfort, with many featuring technology tour services and authentic Moravian hospitality.

Guest Reviews
The room I stayed in was large and beautifully done. The location in the heart of the old town couldn't be better. The contactless check-in was smooth and easy. I didn't cook, but the kitchenette included a Nespresso machine and a water boiler with tea and coffee provided, which was a nice extra The best thing about this property was the staff communication. They answered questions and messages immediately, both before and during my stay, and went out of their way to accomodate my special request without hesitation.
The location is perfect and the price is very reasonable. Given the location and the bar in the corridor leading to the accommodation, the place was somewhat quiet. Despite the fact that there is no reception, the instructions were delivered on time and were clear.
Very good location, very clean
The room has windows to the courtyard, so is very quiet. Old building, so must be very comfortable in summer season.
The location could not be better. Breakfast is served at a nearby patisserie. Above the basics: coffee/tea, juice, butter, jam, Nutella, and toast there are many options. You can also ask for granola, egg dishes ("hemenex"), cold cuts, croissants, and sandwiches. You get breakfast with a voucher. The studio is nice, has everything you need for a short stay, and the beds are comfortable. WiFi worked properly.
The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed, there was also tea and coffee, nice sofas, table, furniture. Despite not having done the online check-in, the owner came to let me in and was very friendly and also ready to help with any questions I could have. I appreciated the friendly welcome after a long travel. :)
