APARTMENT Blue Heaven

You know what caught me off guard about Blue Heaven? The name sounds a bit cheesy, but honestly, this little apartment hotel on Francouzská really does feel like stumbling onto something special in Brno. I mean, when you’re walking down this tree-lined street – and trust me, it’s one of those properly European streets where you feel like you should be carrying a baguette – you almost miss the entrance because it blends into the residential vibe so naturally.

The apartment itself is what I’d call “smart small” – whoever designed this place actually gets how people travel. There’s enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped, and the kitchen isn’t one of those joke setups where you can barely make coffee. I actually cooked a proper breakfast here, which never happens when I travel. The bed’s comfortable enough that I slept past my alarm (dangerous when you have museum plans), and the bathroom has decent water pressure, which… well, you know how hit-or-miss that can be in older European buildings. What really sold me was the morning light – these big windows face the right direction, so you wake up naturally instead of fumbling around in the dark wondering what time zone you’re in.

Location-wise, you’re sort of perfectly positioned between the touristy center and actual Brno life. The tram stop is maybe a three-minute walk – I timed it because I’m neurotic about missing connections – and you can get to Špilberk Castle or the old town without any fuss. But here’s the thing locals know: this stretch of Francouzská puts you close to some really good neighborhood spots. There’s this bakery around the corner where they don’t speak much English but make incredible koláče, and if you walk toward the park in the evening, you’ll find where people actually hang out, not just tourists taking photos. The street itself stays pretty quiet at night, which I appreciated after a few days in Prague where sirens seemed to be the city’s soundtrack. Parking can be a bit tricky – typical European city situation – but the staff actually knows which streets have spots and when street cleaning happens. That kind of local insight makes a difference when you’re hauling luggage around. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me; it’s not luxury, but everything works properly and there’s this feeling that someone actually cares about the details rather than just checking boxes.
