New luxury main square apartment

You know what hit me first about this place? Walking into Palac Koblizna feels like stumbling into someone’s incredibly well-appointed private residence rather than a typical hotel setup. The building itself sits right on Kobližná street – and I mean right in the thick of things – but somehow they’ve managed to create this cocoon of calm once you’re inside. The apartment I stayed in was honestly more spacious than my actual apartment back home, with these gorgeous high ceilings that make you feel like you’re living in some period drama.

The location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to actually experience Brno rather than just sleep there. You’re literally steps from the main square (Náměstí Svobody), which means you can stumble out for morning coffee at one of those tiny local cafés before the tour groups arrive, or grab late-night drinks without worrying about taxis or trams. I found myself just wandering down to Zelný trh market most mornings – it’s maybe a three-minute walk – picking up fresh bread and local cheese. The cobblestone streets can be a bit tricky with wheeled luggage, but honestly, the trade-off is worth it. What surprised me was how quiet it actually gets at night, despite being so central. The building seems to have good sound insulation, or maybe it’s just that Brno doesn’t party quite as hard as Prague.

The apartment itself feels properly luxurious without being stuffy about it – think quality linens that actually feel good, a kitchen you’d want to cook in (though with all the restaurants nearby, why would you?), and a bathroom where someone clearly thought about the details. The shower pressure was excellent, which I know sounds mundane but you know how hit-or-miss that can be in historic buildings. I particularly loved the windows – they’re these tall, elegant things that flood the space with light during the day and give you perfect people-watching opportunities in the evening. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that corporate hotel rigmarole. The staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood and gave me recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little wine bar called Sklepení that I never would have found otherwise. If you’re planning to visit during summer, definitely book early – Brno’s becoming more popular with travelers who want Czech charm without Prague crowds, and places like this that combine authentic location with genuine comfort are getting harder to snag.
