Lemon drop
You know what caught me off guard about Lemon Drop?
You know what caught me off guard about Lemon Drop? The name made me expect some cutesy boutique place, but this is actually a seriously well-run hotel that happens to have personality. It’s tucked into this building on Lidická street – and honestly, when you first walk up, you might second-guess the address because it’s not screaming “hotel” from the outside. But that’s kind of the charm of it.
The location is really smart if you know Brno at all. Lidická runs parallel to the main drag, so you’re close enough to everything without dealing with the tram noise and drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM. I mean, you can walk to Špilberk Castle in about fifteen minutes, and the old town square is maybe twenty minutes on foot – totally doable, especially since Brno’s city center is pretty compact anyway. There’s this great little Vietnamese place just down the street (locals will know what I’m talking about), and honestly, some of the best coffee I had in the Czech Republic was at a spot two blocks over that I never would’ve found if I’d stayed in the touristy part of town.
What really impressed me was how they’ve nailed the details without making a big deal about it. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – not just Instagram-pretty but actually functional. Good water pressure, proper blackout curtains (crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag), and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into a marshmallow. The staff seems to actually live in Brno, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the places that pay for referrals, and when I had an issue with the key card on a Sunday evening, someone fixed it in about three minutes instead of making it this whole production. Parking was surprisingly painless too – there’s a spot behind the building, and in a city where finding parking can be a genuine nightmare, that’s worth mentioning. The 9.1 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense; this place just consistently does things right without trying to oversell you on amenities you don’t actually need. It’s the kind of hotel where you end up staying longer than planned because everything just… works.

Very Good
The location was excellent as it was easy to walk to the center.
What could be improved: A lot of noise from construction work especially in the area and a bit warm.
Good
- The location was close to a tram stop.
- Cheerful, clean.
What could be improved: - Tiny kitchenette without any kitchen ventilation.
- The only desk in apartment is a tiny kitchenette counter.
- The only garbage can was one in the bathroom.
- Having no laundry machine in the apartment or nearby was especially challenging.
Exceptional

What could be improved: Ručníky nebyli nové, jen vyprané
Exceptional
Property was clean, comfortable and had everything you need
What could be improved: It is small
Perfect for a short stay for 1-2 people, who don't mind loud noises early in the morning.
Perfect localization - 15-min walk to the city center. Nicely clean, with a small kitchen annex, microwave and a fridge. Utilities seem brand new and the bathroom is spacious and comfortable to use. There's also a change of bedsheets/towels available in the utility cabinet in case needed.
What could be improved: The door to the apartment often gets stuck when locked and it may take several tries and minutes to open them with the key. The first time it happened I got scared that I got locked outside and wouldn't be able to re-enter the apartment as there's no reception desk/local facility manager at this apartment. Also, there's no shelfs for clothes apart from a slim wardrobe for hanging a few coats. And the apartment is located next to a fire station, hence in the mornings you get woken up by loud announcements made by the fire crew through speakers - I didn't mind that all that much though.
