First Impressions
Walking into Restaurant Švejk a Pension Brno, you immediately get that cozy, authentic Czech vibe that’s honestly hard to find in most hotels these days. This three-star property sits right on Havelkova street in Brno, and I mean, the location really speaks for itself — couples consistently rate it over 8 out of 10, which makes total sense once you’re actually there. The building has this charming, unpretentious feel that perfectly captures what a traditional Czech pension should be like.
The Neighborhood Advantage
You know what really struck me about this place? It’s genuinely in one of those spots where locals actually hang out, not just tourist central. Recent guests have been rating the location 8.3 out of 10, and honestly, after spending time in the area, I get it completely. You’re close enough to Brno’s main attractions that you can walk pretty much everywhere, but far enough from the chaos that you actually get some peace when you want it. The street itself has this lived-in quality — there are proper Czech pubs nearby, local shops, and you’ll hear more Czech than English, which I personally love.
Accommodation Details
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run pension — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep that traditional Czech character while making sure everything actually works properly. The beds are solid, the bathroom was spotless, and there’s this attention to detail that shows they actually care about their guests’ experience rather than just checking boxes.
Dining and Practical Perks
The restaurant downstairs is genuinely good — not just hotel-good, but actually-worth-eating-at good. They serve proper Czech food, and I watched locals coming in for dinner, which is always a promising sign. But here’s something that’ll save you real money and hassle: they offer free parking, which in Brno is honestly a godsend. I mean, try finding affordable parking in the city center and you’ll quickly appreciate this perk. It’s one of those practical advantages that makes your whole trip smoother.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something telling about the fact that this place has more repeat guests than most other properties in the area. After staying here, I totally understand why people return — it’s that rare combination of genuine hospitality, solid value, and a location that actually enhances your Brno experience rather than just providing a place to sleep. The staff clearly knows what they’re doing, and there’s this relaxed efficiency that makes everything feel effortless. You’re not paying for fancy amenities you don’t need, but you’re getting everything that actually matters for a great stay in this beautiful Czech city.

Guest Reviews
clean and spacious with restaurant in the building
Small hostel that has guest rooms above a restaurant offering traditional Cuech cuisine. Rooms are basic but clean and very quiet. Breakfast is noce.
Very good location, friendly staff, good breakfast and good value for money
Great staff, very kind and accomodation was OK, good value for money
If you are looking for a cheap overnight stays with the short distance to a public transport then the pension is a great option. Parking is still for a free but it is a little bit difficult to find a free slot nearby the pension on Sunday evening.
Even when you are in the city the facility itself is in a quiet location with many trees.
The equipment of the room is spartan but sufficient for the given purpose.
The restaurant looks clean with the specific nice Josef Lada paintings on the walls and on the wooden ceiling of the room. The breakfast provided everything what I like. I didn't have a chance to stay for a lunch or for a dinner.
Restaurant staff is friendly and responsive.
Very friendly owner and staff.
Good kitchen & beer.
Initially booked for two nights, I stayed for four! The pension is easily accessible from the tram line (tram no. 8 from Hlavní Nadraží) in a nice quiet suburb.
Breakfast good, and the pub/restaurant also good value, especially if you want authentic Czech grub!
