Overview

Penzion Locanda

You know what?

You know what? Penzion Locanda surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name, I wasn’t sure what to expect (penzion sounds so formal, doesn’t it?), but this place actually has more character than most chain hotels I’ve stayed in. It’s one of those solid 3-star spots that doesn’t try to be fancy but gets the fundamentals right, which honestly can be refreshing.

The thing that struck me right away was how the staff seemed to actually care about whether you had a decent stay. I mean, it’s not luxury service or anything – we’re talking about a 7.2 rating here, so there are definitely some rough edges – but there’s something genuine about the way they run the place. The rooms are pretty straightforward, clean enough, though I did notice the WiFi could be a bit spotty depending on which floor you’re on. The shower pressure was actually better than I expected, which is always a pleasant surprise when you’re traveling. There’s this slightly old-school European feel to everything that I found kind of charming, even if some of the furniture has seen better days.

What really won me over, though, was the breakfast situation. Nothing fancy, but they put out fresh bread and decent coffee, and you can tell someone’s actually paying attention to keeping things stocked and appetizing. I stayed there during what seemed like a busy period, and even then, mornings felt relaxed rather than chaotic. The common areas get a bit of natural light, which makes a difference when you’re planning your day or just need to decompress after walking around all afternoon. Honestly, for the price point, you’re getting solid value – it’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day properly fed, and don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything essential. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind, but sometimes you just want a reliable base without the pretense, and Penzion Locanda delivers on that front.

Great people managing the property. Just opposite the BVV, with option for a paid parking space for a reasonable price. Good wifi too and the room was nice and warm.

Great location and facilities (air con, refrigerator and TV), also comfy beds. Sadly couldn’t meet the host due to unforeseen circumstances however the host answered all questions immediately over text and were very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again next time I’m in Brno :) hotel right by the tram tracks which meant you had great access to the main train/bus station which also wasn’t too far of a walk. All attractions such as the castle and museums in walking distance

My room was small and cute. Brno is definitely a city worth seeing. I was there for a few days prior and stayed at a different hotel. Brno is a gem!

Perfect for a short stay, just a few minutes from the center by car. Good value for money.

Facility is facing a fairly busy street with street car, but the windows are good enough to muffle it for the most part, and the noise does not bother. For summer you don't need to keep them open, as the A/C takes care of temperature. My room was a bit tight in higher portion (being the corner of the gable roof), so for a 196 cm (6'7") guy half of the room was literally a 'no-go' territory. On the other hand - I needed a place to sleep and that's why I got. A place to sleep with a HUGE sitting corner bath and a fridge. Take you tea or coffee, but you got a kettle and mugs all right. AND the facility is on the other side of the street from the Brno Fair, so you got close to the facility (at least if it is not in Pavillion B, for which you have to walk around 3/4 of the circumference of the Fair Ground - and it is a BIG one - but that's not the hotel's fault). AND it has a parking - pretty useful in what amounts to a non-parking zone (actually called the Zone C, or blue-lined). Word of care, folks: take their parking, or else you'll have to pay for it every two hours by a txt message to the city, *throughout the entire night*. The Brno city parking system is super-hostile to the visitors: you pay only 5PM to 6AM (which in most European cities are happy-hours with free parking) and you can't pay for the whole night in one go and just take a nap, but instead you have to renew payment every two hours. Welcome to Brno, our dear guests!
